InStyle Magazine August 2015 Freebie: St Tropez In Shower Tan

InStyle August St Tropez In Shower Tan

If you know me or have been reading this blog for some time, you know I’m not a huge fan of tanning. I stick to my gradual lotions that make my pale skin achieve a slight glow with a subtle tan and that’s that, ‘proper’ tanning products never get anywhere near my skin. However when I heard of St Tropez’s latest offering, the In Shower Tan, it intrigued me and seemed super easy, perfect for a tanning newbie like myself. I nearly bought the full size version a couple of weeks back however now I’m glad I waited as InStyle magazine have a 50ml version free with their August issue…

So how does it work? You shower as you normally would and when you’re done turn the shower off and apply this lotion to wet skin in circular motions. If you’ve washed your hair beforehand, I’d recommended tying it up just to avoid dripping. The constituency of this lotion is creamy and when applied to the skin turns quite milky and clings to your skin so it does not budge one bit.  Once you’ve applied, you have to wait 3 minutes. This can feel like a lifetime when you’re standing in the shower.. butt naked. So maybe take the time to do a hair mask or brush your teeth? I’m definitely going to do one of these the next time I apply this. Do not wrap yourself in a towel however!
When the 3 minutes are up, simply rinse off! Do be careful though, I’ve found that this clings to the skin so well that it can be hard to miss patches so before you finish make sure every bit is rinsed off. Gently dry yourself and get dressed then it’s just a waiting game.

I applied this just to my arms and legs for the first two times, just to try it out. I found the first application didn’t really do anything. I had a slight glow to my arms but no signs of any colour however as this is gradual I suppose it has to be expected.

The next day, I applied it again. Unfortunately, there was still not a lot of colour to my skin, I didn’t look pasty pale like I normally would so there was definitely a hint of something but nowhere near a ‘tan’. So it’s safe to say you need to apply this for a fair few days in order to get a tan. I’m not overly impressed with how long this takes, it’s very gradual and my Dove Summer Glow Gradual Tanning Lotion is a lot quicker than this and the next day you have quite a lot of colour to your skin with it.

So I would definitely not recommend this to anyone who wants a tan quickly, it will not happen with this. But if you’re like me, pale and would like a hint of something and don’t mind applying this a few days in a row then this is perfect for you. I’m yet to try this out for more than 2 days in a row but I’m going to finish this 50ml up and see what happens and how dark my skin will go, I’ll then decide whether or not it’s worth purchasing the 200ml version.

If you want to try out the St Tropez In Shower Tan, go pick up a copy of this month’s InStyle. A great way to try out this product rather than paying full price and possibly not getting along with it and never using it again.

Have you tried the St Tropez In Shower Tan? What were the results like for you?
