I love a bargain. So a couple of weekends ago, I decided to pop into TKMaxx and see what beauty products they had in store. After having a long browse, I couldn’t see anything that caught my eye. There was a lot of eyeshadow palettes lying around, opened, swatched with finger marks visible. I obviously wasn’t going to spend money on things that someone else had already used. As I was about to walk away, I saw something that was still in it’s original plastic outer packaging, unopened so I picked it up and saw that it was an eyeshadow palette from Cargo Cosmetics. I certainly don’t need any more eyeshadow palettes but the fact I couldn’t find anything else, it’s £10 price tag (RRP £35!) and the stunning shades inside convinced me that I needed to get to the tills straight away so I could call this baby mine. And so I did!
The Cargo Cosmetics Northern Lights palette comes in lovely red snakeskin effect packaging which adds a touch of luxury to this palette, it was definitely the first thing to draw me in. It is so different to your usual packaging, most of the palettes I own come in plain black packaging so this definitely makes it a little more fun.
Inside are twelve absolutely stunning shades all named after things associated with the Northern Lights such as the places you can witness this amazing phenomenon. Lapland, Iceland, Finland etc. I find these shades perfect for this time of year, so it’s no surprise that this was actually released last Christmas as a limited edition palette. However, it’s still available on the Debenhams website and possibly your local TKMaxx too.
The Northern Lights palette has a range of both matte and shimmers although the shimmers definitely dominate, so if you’re not a lover of shimmery eyeshadows then this palette probably isn’t for you! The texture of these eyeshadows is possibly one of the best – silky soft, buttery, dreamy. They are seriously pigmented with intense colour pay off and blend beautifully. The only downside is the more intense shades can have a little fall out but it’s nothing too major, nothing that can’t be fixed. My favourite shade has to be Aurora.. however this comes as no surprise as it has a rose gold tone and I’m obsessed with anything and everything rose gold.
When it comes to brushes included in palettes, they are usually a bit crap if I’m honest. However the double ended brush included in this palette is quite different from the usual. It’s super soft and applies as well as any other eyeshadow brush I own. Inside there is also a mirror but it’s a little on the small side for my liking.
The Northern Lights palette has definitely made me more aware of and interested in Cargo Cosmetics and their products especially the eyeshadows, if they’re all this good then I want them all! 😉 If you love finding beauty bargains then I definitely recommend popping into your nearest TKMaxx. You won’t always find great things but you may find a gem. Other brands I saw included Real Techniques, The Balm, Illamasqua, Nuxe and loads more, it’s definitely worth having a look!
