7 Days In Fuerteventura

A month ago, I was in sunny Fuerteventura. A beautiful island that forms part of the Canary Islands, a group of islands belonging to Spain that sit off the southern coast of Morocco, other islands you may have heard of or even been to include Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote. Fuerteventura is an absolutely breathtaking island with miraculous views, picturesque sand dunes and gorgeous beaches. We stayed in the main resort town of Corralejo that sits on the north east coast from which you have fabulous views across the sea to Lanzarote and the uninhabited Lobos Island.

During our 7 days, we had absolutely gorgeous weather hitting at least 28C most days. We took a boat over to Playa Blanca in Lanzarote then went out to sea and the stunning Papagayo Beach where we could partake in different water activities such as snorkelling, banana boat, kayaking.. However, me being the wuss I am, I didn’t take part in anything. I just sat enjoying the gorgeous views and weather with the free beer and food on offer, as you do!

Just outside Corralejo are the fabulous sand dunes – ‘Parque National de Corralejo’. They cover an area of about 24sqm and are stunning. Unfortunately, the day we went was very overcast and windy meaning we didn’t walk the whole thing which was a bit disappointing but being continuously hit in the face by sand wasn’t my idea of fun!

Another day, we visited Oasis Park, a zoo with over 3000 different animals of 250 different species but not only that, Oasis Park also has a gorgeous botanical garden filled with tropical plants like cactuses. The highlight of my day here was seeing an elephant chasing a Gazelle around it’s enclosure then trumpeting which was amazing! I’d never heard that before, it was wonderful. At Oasis Park there are many shows on offer such as birds of prey (which I think cured my fear of birds!) and a sea lion show which was fantastic! You can also do a camel safari which we decided not to do since we had already rode camels on our previous holiday to Lanzarote.. but I would definitely recommend it, what an experience that was!!

Other days we just relaxed, walked around Corralejo, enjoyed the sunshine and did a bit of shopping. The best place for cosmetics is Fund Grube, they are all 100% genuine with great prices so if you ever visit, go here for all your make up, skincare, perfumes, handbags etc! Other shops around the area include Zara, Mango, Bershka and Stradivarius. For food, pop into La Cantina Don Pepe. Definitely my favourite place we visited, we went twice! It’s a Mexican with the yummiest food and amazing cocktails. I wish I could have one of their Strawberry Daiquiris right now.

Definitely consider Fuerteventura for your next holiday. I think it often gets over looked for the more popular islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife but it’s totally worth going there. Not only is it beautiful, but there is so much to do and see. I would definitely consider going back!

  • Thank you! 🙂 x

  • Oh wow, it looks like you had an incredible time! I kind of love/hate seeing this post, because it's snowy outside and my apartment is cooooolddd!
It reminds me a lot of the place where my family vacations every summer — Corpus Christi, right on the Gulf Coast. I'm definitely missing the ocean 🙁

  • Haha I feel exactly the same way right now! It's sooo cold and it's likely to snow, I'd do anything to be back here! x
