Tarte’s Shape Tape concealer is the must have beauty item on the scene right now and it’s selling like hotcakes, every 26 seconds to be exact. And when a product is so popular, I’m likely to pop it in my basket without any second thought. So, is it worth the hype?
I’m a concealer hoarder, I have about 20 in my collection right now. It’s rather ridiculous! But, when you have the most visible under eye bags like myself, it’s a vital, makeup essential. I can’t live without my concealers! My holy grail is the Collection Lasting Perfection, one I thought could never be beaten until I got my hands on Shape Tape!
The Tarte Shape Tape Concealer comes in 15 shades (unfortunately, QVC seem to only stock 6!) which is brilliant as I rarely ever see such a wide range of shades for concealers. As there is nowhere in the UK to swatch these before purchasing, I was a bit unsure on what shade to go for and as this was my most expensive concealer purchase yet, I didn’t want to buy the wrong shade. So, I tweeted the lovely people at Tarte and they replied straight away with some advice so away I went and bought the shade, Light.
I usually go for the palest shade in concealers as I’m as white as a ghost. But Tarte’s advice made sense, they told me to go for Light if I had pink undertones which I do rather than opt for Fair. If you have fair skin without the pink undertones, Fair is probably your best option. I’m glad I tweeted Tarte as Light is perfect for me. If you ever need advice on their products do give them a tweet!
In terms of coverage, this concealer is insane. The first time I put it on I was blown away, I know that sounds silly when it comes to makeup but honestly, it really blew me away. Whilst it may be full coverage, it’s a very lightweight, creamy formula. It can crease a little after application but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed and it stays put through the day with minimal touchups which sometimes aren’t even required! It’s the perfect concealer for those of us with dry skin. I would say the finish is more satin than matte. It really makes your under eye area look flawless which is something I thought I’d never be able to achieve. On blemishes it is also amazing, I had a rather horrendous breakout on my chin recently and after using Shape Tape, they were barely noticeable.
In terms of the packaging, the wand applicator is rather big. Something I was a little unsure of at first but honestly, it doesn’t make much of a difference. I find you get just enough product to give you an immaculate finish. If you order from QVC, you will also receive the Quickie Blending Sponge which isn’t all that great, I didn’t like how it applied the concealer. Instead, I blend it with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge which is waaay better.
I was a bit wary of spending so much on a concealer but I’m happy I did and I will continue to repurchase this as I don’t think I could live without now and although Collection Lasting Perfection may be a whole lot cheaper this definitely beats it. But I will always have a Collection concealer in my makeup bag because I’m a hoarder…
You can buy the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer on QVC for £28 but they have very limited shades. For more shades, you can buy straight from the Tarte website for a little less at £19 but you may encounter custom charges, so be aware of that.
