It may be nearly March but I said in my Best in Beauty 2017: Makeup post last month that I would share my skincare favourites with you too, so here we are! I tried out a lot of new brands during the year and also stuck with a few favourites from the likes of Lush and Botanics. My biggest skincare discovery of the year had to be The Ordinary.. who have completely taken over my skincare routine with their budget-friendly products.
Let’s start with the products from one of my favourite retailers – Lush. Over the past few years, not only have I fallen in love with their incredible bath products, I’m a huge fan of their skincare too. Especially the Ultrabland Cleanser. I have had many favourite cleansers, all of which I’ve probably called my ‘holy grail’ at one point or another but this honestly is my holy grail! I’ll always have one in my bathroom drawer. It has a super rich and creamy formula and removes dirt and makeup in an instant, it’s also incredibly refreshing in the mornings! According to Lush, it’s based on an Ancient Greek formula for cold cream and contains ingredients such as Almond Oil and Honey.
The Tea Tree water toner has been pushed aside recently due to testing other similar products however I absolutely love it. Not only is it completely revitalising, it’s brilliant for acne-prone skin with its antibacterial properties. I used this a lot during horrible breakouts that occurred last year and it did seem to help!
The Botanics range at Boots has been a long time favourite and I’ve tried a few products but it’s the All Bright Radiance Serum that is the stand out product, for me. This is my second bottle and it’s got to be my favourite serum that I’ve used. It’s a pretty simple product but it really does make my skin look radiant, I don’t think I’ll buy any other serum from now on especially when you can get one this good for a few quid.
All of Superdrug’s own brand ranges have really impressed me. From the Naturally Radiant to Vitamin E, if you’re on a budget, I’d definitely take a look at these bargain skincare gems. My go to night cream is the Vitamin E Night Cream an intensely rich, non-greasy moisturiser that is high in antioxidants and provides my dry skin with overnight nourishment.
This next product was probably one of the most hyped skincare products of 2017, it’s the Pixi collab with skincare expert and fellow blogger, Caroline Hirons. You can read my full review here. The Double Cleanse is exactly what it says on the tin – a double cleansing product. One side contains a solid cleansing oil and the other, a light cream. It’s a really lovely product but I haven’t been reaching for it a lot lately, only when I’m wearing heavier makeup than normal that needs something a bit extra to remove all traces of it.
I’ve left the best until last.. my new favourite skincare brand, The Ordinary! Like I said before, they’ve pretty much taken over my routine, I think the only thing I don’t use from them is a cleanser (will they release one, I wonder?). Deciem describes The Ordinary as ‘an evolving collection of treatments offering familiar, effective clinical technologies’ and the best part is their products don’t break the bank! Read my full first impressions post here. My favourite product at the moment would probably be the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution it’s an exfoliating facial treatment that you apply for 10 minutes before rinsing off and leaves you with brighter, even skin. It offers deep exfoliation that is brilliant for reducing blemishes, scarring and over time, the appearance of fine lines.
The Salycic Acid 2% Solution is another great product for targeting blemishes, I used this a bunch when suffering with my breakouts last year and it cleared them up in no time. I 100% recommend this to anyone with acne prone skin.
