5 Tips For New Bloggers | Is blogging right for me?

Now that I’ve been blogging for over a year and probably no longer considered a new blogger (although it sometimes still feels like it!) I thought it was about time I shared some tips for new bloggers. Those of you who are thinking of starting up a blog are probably wondering if blogging is right for you. These 5 tips will hopefully help your decision.

1. It’s not easy.
Please do not start a blog if you think it’s going to be an easy ride because it’s not. If you start with those thoughts you’ll end up giving up in a few weeks/months. I didn’t realise how hard it would be but it’s bloody tough and overwhelming at times. Trying to think of post ideas when you’re at a complete blank and spending hours writing and taking photos, it can be stressful but it is fun too, obviously or I wouldn’t be doing it otherwise!

2. Don’t blog for the freebies.
As you’ll probably be waiting a heck of a long time and like I said above, you’ll have given up if that’s all you’re in it for. I have been blogging for a year and one month now and I’m yet to be sent anything. However, I have been lucky enough to have a few brands contact me to put together posts (such as my Achieving Healthy, Glowing Skin post) but these are non sponsored (I wasn’t paid). It’s not about the freebies, I do this as a hobby. Would I like to be sent samples? Of course, who wouldn’t? but that’s not why I write this blog. I like writing, I like photography and I obviously adore beauty, that’s why I blog.

3. Don’t compare to yourself to others.
I’m guilty of this and I’m sure every other blogger is too. I know it’s hard not to but try not to compare yourself with others bloggers because the majority have been blogging a lot longer than you therefore have more experience and knowledge but you’ll get there too, it just takes time.

4. Success won’t come overnight.
I suppose this ties in with number 2 also. Don’t expect to have a huge number of readers and followers overnight and to have PRs & brands emailing you everyday. It takes a lot of work, determination and getting your blog out there. Write interesting posts and promote them on social media, leave relevant comments on your favourite blogs with a link back to your blog (don’t spam!), and even advertise on other blogs. Work hard on your blog and your following and success will build up eventually.

5. Enjoy every moment.
Like I said in the first tip, it’s stressful, hard work and overwhelming at times but make sure you enjoy it too. If you ever have a day where you think ‘I can’t blog anymore’ then think of where it may possibly take you and the benefits of running a blog. You’re learning every day when you write a blog, thats what I love. Writing skills, photography skills and even communication skills if you are in contact with PRs & brands. Blogging can literally lead to anything these days and is now worthy of being included on job applications & CVs. Also seeing fellow bloggers have great success is really motivating. Yes, it will probably take years to match that success or possibly never even happen to you but knowing there is that possibility of becoming really successful is so inspiring and will keep you going but only if you are really enjoying it.

I hope this was helpful to some of you and makes it easier for you to decide on whether or not blogging is for you. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask 🙂

Do you have any tips for new bloggers?

And here we are! Today marks one year since I started blogging. I’m so surprised that I’m actually sat here one year on writing this post. I honestly did not think I would stick at it at all. I have run a few blogs in the past, have written one post and completely forgotten about them! I absolutely love blogging and feel I have improved so much in the last year. I’m so much more confident in myself, my photography and my writing skills. I used to think that I was the worst writer in the world, I’ve proved myself wrong, I think anyway!

I have a lot coming up in the next month in relation to the blog. Soon, this blog will have a new name. I feel lauzylouu is now outdated. It was a nickname I made up for myself back in 2007 I think, I was 15 then. And you know, I thought it was cool. And then it just stuck. So I used it for pretty much everything! So I’ve decided on a new name and can’t wait to change it. Along with the new name change will be a new domain and a new theme! So be sure to check back for that in the next month or so.

To say a big thank you to all my followers/readers, I’m running my first ever giveaway and there will be TWO winners! Pinterest is one of my favourite social media sites alongside Instagram. I pin pretty much every day and waste about 1-2 hours on it pinning all the pretty pictures, it’s addictive. A few months back, I really didn’t see it’s appeal but now I can’t get off the damn thing! It’s a great site if you’re looking for inspiration in anything and everything – beauty, fashion, workouts, recipes.. the list goes on. Here are some of my recent favourite pins..

16 Things in 2016

Yup, I’m jumping on the bandwagon and writing a 2016 goals post. I’ve read a lot of these posts recently and it got me thinking about the things I’d like to do and achieve this year, I thought I would do this post a little differently and come up with 16 things I want accomplish throughout the year and it will be interesting to come back at the end of 2016 and see what I achieved! So without further ado..

1. Travel More
I really do believe I was born to travel. I have serious wanderlust. My goal this year is definitely to go on a few trips abroad, I already have Amsterdam planned for April but hopefully I’ll get to go abroad at least one other time. My holiday to Fuerteventura last year was my first in 6 years, I’m determined to not let a gap like that happen again!

2. Save Money
Obviously a requirement for travelling but I also have other things I need to save up for. Concerts, TV show conventions etc. I’m not too bad at saving money really so this shouldn’t be too difficult.

3. Learn To Drive
I’ve had my provisional license for almost a year now and I was intending on booking lessons as soon as I got it but that never happened! So I really must learn this year! I would love the freedom of just being able to get in my car and drive anywhere I like.

4. Lose Weight
I’m not the biggest girl but I’m not the slimmest either. I need to lose about 2 stone and I certainly need to tone up! It doesn’t bother me too much but I know I’d be a lot happier.

5. Learn Something New
I’m not really sure what yet, but it would be nice to learn something new. Maybe I can learn Dutch before I go to Amsterdam? Haha.

6. Decorate/Declutter my room.
My room is in desperate need of decorating and I have shelves that are still waiting to be put up since 2013. I know, lazy. I also need more storage for my makeup, skincare so I can clear my desk area. It’s so cluttered at the moment, I can’t sit and use my iMac.

7. Get A Job I Love
This is probably everyones wish to have a job they love. I’d love to work in the fashion or beauty industry. I have no idea what role but it’s definitely what I’m working towards!

8. Win more competitions!
One of my favourite hobbies is to enter competitions and I have won a fair amount of them, but it never stops you from wanting more! I know most bloggers dislike compers and I can kind of see why. Yes, you do get a few people who enter just for the sake of and have no interest in what you’re giving away but I’m not one of them, I appreciate everything I win and only enter if I have an interest in it.

9. Pay off my debts
I suppose this is kind of related to saving money, another reason I need to save is so I can pay off my credit card & my catalogue credit so I no longer have that worry. If I come back to this post at the end of 2016 and I’ve achieved this, I’ll be very very happy.

10. Start Youtube
This is so scary to me but I still really want to do it! As an anxious, shy person the thought of people watching me speak on video is a bit terrifying and it doesn’t help that I also hate how my voice sounds on video! Haha we’ll have to see about this one!

11. See my best friend more
Unfortunately, my best friend lives just over 100 miles away from me and it absolutely sucks. It means we only see each other a few months out of the year, instead of probably every day like we would if we lived nearer each other. I don’t know if it’s possible to see each other more than we already do, due to things like money, but I’m going to try really hard in 2016.

12. Be more interactive in the blogging community
Since I started blogging almost a year ago, I’ve barely interacted within the blogging community. Yes, I comment on other blogs but things like twitter chats I’ve not taken part in. Even online, I’m quite shy and taking that first step is quite a biggie. I never really know what to say which sounds silly, I know!

13. Improve my blog photography
Photography is one of my favourite hobbies and I think I’ve come a long way since I started this blog in February 2015 but theres still a long way to go but it takes time and lots of mistakes which you then learn from. I’ve definitely learnt that in the last year! Who knows what my blog photos will look like this time next year?

14. Reach 500 followers on Bloglovin’
Sounds a little silly when I’m not even at 100 yet, but 500 seems like a good number to aim for by the end of the year.

15. Post more on Instagram
I do post a fair bit, but not on the scale I probably should be. Sometimes, I can go a few days without posting and most of the time it’s just to promote a blog post. I do find it hard to find inspiration though and I definitely want to give my Instagram a theme.

16. Attend a blogger event
Obviously I would need to get over my shyness for this one! But I would love to attend at least one blogger event this year and meet some fellow bloggers in person.

What are your goals for 2016?
